My iWeb created site is displaying this error

The situation:

You have created a web site in Apple's iWeb software. It looks great on your computer. You upload it to our servers, and iWeb reports a successful upload.Instead of seeing your site on the server (in your browser), you see this error message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/a1416194/public_html/index.html on line 1

How to address it:

Add the following to your .htaccess file (or create an .htaccess file and add the following if one does not exist.)

php_flag short_open_tag on

What happened in the first place:

Some of our servers are configured to process .html files as PHP scripts. iWeb generated html files start with <?xml... , which under some circumstances (short_open_tags On) is interpreted by PHP as the beginning of a PHP script (the <? part.) This results in the error you experienced.
